A microorganism is a living thing that is too small to be seen with the naked eye. Examples of microorganisms include bacteria, viruses, algae, protozoa and fungi. In this lesson, students will learn about the 5 different types of microorganisms and how they behave. They will complete a matching activity: matching the microorganism with its information and will further investigate them through links to scientific websites online provided. They will then write a non-chronological report on what they have learnt (proformas provided) and will finally create their own microbe character to write a ‘Lonely Hearts’ add for, for fun. This is an engaging lesson which comes with an interactive power point presentation and all corresponding activity worksheets. “The Highwayman” is a narrative poem written by Alfred Noyes, first published in 1906. It tells the story of an unnamed highwayman who is in love with Bess, a landlord’s daughter. In this lesson students will work towards the objective: use the idea of the Earth’s rotation to explain day and night and the apparent movement of the sun across the sky. Water resistance is a force that tries to slow things down that are moving through water. It is a type of friction and sometimes called drag. In this lesson, students will learn what water resistance is and how it affects us. They will learn about streamlining and how we make things streamlined in order to reduce water resistance. They will also learn about upthrust and how this enables boats to float. They will complete a quiz mid-way through to check understanding. They will then carry out an experiment to investigate how the shape of aluminum foil affects how it behaves in water.
