Fractions of Amounts Game

(0)
KS2 Finding Fractions of Quantities / Amounts Numeracy scavenger hunt or relay activity: an active printable mental maths team game, with differentiation, ideal as a whole class starter or plenary at Year 5 / Year 6 and early KS3, especially when focusing on fractions of a quantity / amount. It can be played multiple times in a lesson or across several lessons as groups can use different card sets each time. Teams complete a treasure hunt-type chain of fractions calculations, followed by a ‘Find the Target Number’ mental maths challenge, using a mixture of the four operations. There are 54 double-sided cards, forming sets of 6 cards for 9 teams. A key feature is the chance to involve lower ability students in a fun whole class activity to give them a boost of confidence without it being obvious their calculations are less challenging (3 of the sets are at an easier level). Full instructions included, along with solutions. SAVE by purchasing this resource as part of a BUNDLE: Fractions of Amounts / Quantities BUNDLE Fractions Activities BUNDLE KS2 Maths Treasure Hunt BUNDLE Students collaborate on a treasure hunt type maths trail and when they’ve collected all 5 answers, they are given a target, which they must make using 3 given numbers. You can print and laminate the cards in batches of 3 sets, so if you don’t require them all, you needn’t print them. The cards should be printed double-sided (they’ve been laid out to facilitate this). I print by selecting the ‘2-Sided Short Edge (Top)’ option. However, if you can only print one-sided, print all the even-numbered pages, replace the paper, and print the odd-numbered pages on the back. Give each team their ‘Start’ card. Spread out all other cards, answer side up. Each team sends one person to collect the correct answer card, on the other side of which will be their next question and a letter to confirm which team it belongs to. On the other side of the final answer card will be a target number, which teams must make, using the numbers printed in boxes in the bottom right corner of 3 of their cards. Use all 3 numbers and only once each, using any of the 4 operations. The first to make their target number wins! One possible answer for each of the target challenges is printed on the solution cards. Please visit my store for many fun, time-saving maths activities: FullShelf Resources

Over 160 pages and 110 slides.   The 3 included resource packs are also available separately.   FRENCH TELLING THE TIME PRESENTATIONS AND INTERACTIVE GAMES:   In addition to introducing key vocabulary and phrases, this presentation includes activities such as: Practice slides with digital and analogue clocks Oral activities using time in context 6 rounds of an interactive Hexagons Game (where teams compete to translate vocab and phrases and make a path through the grid) - includes two rounds where time is to the nearest minute instead of 5 minute intervals, to stretch groups needing more challenge. 16 rounds of an interactive Reveal the Picture Game (where teams compete to remove parts of a grid to reveal the hidden time in the image)   Please note that most of the text in the PowerPoint is editable, however the images are not. Many slides in the original PowerPoint version feature answers that appear when you click, for students to respond. An additional PDF version is included. While the PDF version does not retain the ability for teachers to reveal answers by clicking, it will still help you introduce and review this topic if you do not have PowerPoint where you work. Please note that the Hexagons and Reveal the Picture games are not compatible with PDF and are therefore omitted from that version.   A PDF file of flashcards / word wall cards for 12-hour time is also included in the Zip file.   FRENCH TELLING THE TIME WORKSHEETS AND PUZZLES:   SUPPORT PAGES: Word mats to display or print for students who require it, for 12 and 24-hour time, and in black and white too. Please note that these support pages are also contained in my printable games packet for this topic. WORKSHEETS: 10 worksheets (with answer keys), all in both 12 AND 24-hour versions, and all differentiated at least two ways using a star system. The 1-star version is the least challenging, for lower ability, younger or less experienced students and almost all of these focus on quarter hour intervals. Many of the 2-star worksheets are in five minute intervals. For Worksheet 4, the 1-star version is in five minute intervals and the 2-star is to the nearest minute, to provide variety and extra challenge. The two “À quelle heure…?” worksheets (Les Activités / Le Transport) are differentiated 3 ways. PUZZLES: There’s an airport puzzle, hidden word puzzle, and maze. The airport puzzle is differentiated; the other two are not. The maze also does not have a 24h version.   FRENCH TELLING THE TIME PRINTABLE GAMES:   Four in a Row: There are 4 boards: word version and digital ones for both the 12 and 24-hour clocks. Print and laminate the ones you want for repeated use with dry-wipe markers. Enlarge if using with larger groups. First to get four in a row - vertically, horizontally or diagonally - wins. Dice required. “J’ai…Qui a…?” Loop Game: A speaking game for groups or the whole class. Print and laminate for repeated use. The 36 cards form a continuous loop so it doesn’t matter which one you start with. There are 3 versions – the first has an analog clock, the second has a digital clock, while the third version features French 24-hour time. Active Oral Game: Ideal for the whole class. Print and laminate the cards. Students walk around the room, asking and answering what time it is in French, using the time printed on their cards. The first pair to find the matching cards wins. There are 2 versions: an analog clock version for 12-hour time and a digital one you can use for 24-hour time. Serpents et Echelles Board Game: Print and laminate the board. It works like normal Chutes and Ladders / Snakes and Ladders, only with students calling out French words when they land on them. Answer key included. Sentences Board Game: Fun for oral practice. Board 1 is a simpler, 12-hour digital version, just in quarter hour intervals. Board 2 is for analog 12-hour time in 5 minute intervals and board 3 is for 24-hour time. Print and laminate. Instructions on board. Answer key included. Square Jigsaw: Laminate and cut the 16 puzzle pieces or have students cut up the black and white version. For an extra challenge, the letters on the outside edge of the puzzle form a related sentence. 2 versions, one for 12-hour time and one for 24-hour time. Students match analog clocks or digital times with French word version of time. Counter Throw Time Target Game: Combines math and French! Students throw a counter onto target each round and add elapsed time to their card in a race to finish a 10-step journey in the shortest time. They must read aloud their new time in French at each stage. Black and white target included. Includes 18 key classroom words.   My FSL / MFL French basics resources and units suit students beginning French, near beginners (and intermediate learners for revision) in: Upper Primary (Key Stage 2) - Year 4, 5, 6 (Y4 Y5 Y6) Secondary (Key Stage 3) - especially Year 7 and 8 (Y7 / Y8) Equivalents such as Grades 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 Core French in Canada May suit others, depending on experience   The Powerpoint includes teaching points about gender / plurals of French nouns and the difference between using un / une / des , le / la / les and mon / ma / mes. It teaches children how to answer questions such as 'Qu’est-ce que c’est? (What it it?) and ‘Tu as une gomme / un crayon?’ (Do you have an eraser / pencil? etc). Includes words for door, window, chair, other furniture as well as pencil-case / schoolbag / stationery / school supplies items ( dans ma trousse / dans mon sac / mes affaires). Due to differences between UK and US terms for some of these words, I have included 2 versions to cater for both. Please note the previews show the UK versions. After the vocabulary has been introduced and key teaching points explained, further slides test the students’ vocabulary before the answer appears on the click of the mouse. There are tasks for students to understand and talk about what is in pencil cases and bags. Also, two interactive games are included. Un Jeu de Kim (Kim’s Game) is a memory game and works well with groups competing to be the first to write the correct French word on their whiteboard for the object that is missing. ‘Frappez les Objets’ is a ‘Splat’ game, where a small group competes to hit or point at the correct picture when the teacher says the French object. A non-interactive PDF version of the PowerPoint is also included in case you don’t have PowerPoint. In most cases where terms differ between UK English and US English, both terms have been included. Place Value Games

(0)
Key Stage 2 (KS2) Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 maths dice games for place value up to millions and decimals to 3 places. Includes games for 4, 5, 6 and 7 digit numbers (thousands, ten thousands, hundred thousands and millions) and 1, 2 and 3 decimal places (tenths, hundredths and thousandths). A fun, more challenging and strategic twist on an old idea, these 19 games will make students think carefully about where to place digits, practise their ordering skills, develop interesting tactics and prolong the uncertainty until the final moments. 24 pages, PDF format. Great for starters, early finishers, revision or as a fun homework task Many levels of challenge - ideal for differentiation or for use across year groups Use as printed worksheets or else laminate (or use in dry-wipe sleeves) and complete with whiteboard pens Instead of playing in pairs, you might form small groups - pairs could play against pairs instead of one-versus-one and you might appoint a checker who can adjudicate (and then swap roles for the next game). Consider enlarging to A3 for larger groups. There is a mixture of Make the Biggest Number, Make the Smallest Number and Greater or Less Than games   Every turn, players can place the digit they throw on any row or column, until there are no vacant boxes remaining, prolonging the uncertainty! Keeping an eye on each other’s numbers as they form, players will begin to spot new tactics; for instance they might notice that a 1 placed in a thousands place might not be so costly if there’s a 9 in the ten thousands place, depending on what their opponent is doing on their grid. They can also practise saying their completed numbers aloud at the end.   If you don’t have a 0-9 dice, the games still work with a 1-6 dice. Alternatively: Use 0-9 spinners (I have included black and white and colour templates for your convenience) if you wish to make some Use digit cards (basic digit cards included in the file) Use a pack of playing cards (use Aces as 1 and Jacks as 0, put aside the Kings and Queens; shuffle the pack and take one card in turn)   Instructions are printed on the boards.   Thank you very much for supporting my store.   YOU MIGHT ALSO LIKE… Multiplication and Division Activities BUNDLE Maths Puzzles Worksheets HUGE BUNDLE Place Value CrossNumber Puzzles Area and Perimeter Activities BUNDLE   Explore more at FullShelf Resources

At the end they rearrange the circled letters to complete the phrase at the bottom of the page. WORD SEARCH: An easier, 1-star version gives students the first 3 letters of each one. An extra challenge has students put the unused letters together to make a short phrase. CROSSWORD: An easier, 1-star version gives students the first 3 letters of each word that they need to write into the grid (without accents). ANSWER KEYS AND TEACHER NOTES

Doubles and Halves Games 2 / 3 digits

Doubling and Halving 2 and 3 digit numbers printable game boards. These 10 printable Four in a Row games are ideal for Key Stage 2 (KS2), especially Year 4, 5 and 6 (Y4 / Y5 / Y6). Use as Maths starters / warm ups, early finishers activities etc. All boards (and answer grids) are included in color and black and white. The range of challenge across these games means they suit a range of grades or would be ideal for differentiation within the same class. In Scotland, it suits Second Level Maths, especially Primary 5, 6 and 7. Includes: A One Star game for both doubling and halving for younger or lower ability pupils - sidebars are included, featuring all answers, which children can strike through when used. However, I have also included these without the answer sidebars in case your students don’t need this added support. These games focus on lower 2-digit numbers and multiples of 10. 2 medium challenge doubling and halving boards (Two Stars), including some larger – and trickier – two and three digit numbers. 2 higher challenge doubling and halving boards (Three Stars). These feature mostly larger three digit numbers (and the halving of some four digit numbers). Laminate and use again and again. Two players per board (or 4 if working in a pair). Printing in A3 is best for a larger group but A4 works too. Opponents take it in turns to double (or find half of – depending on which game they’re playing) a number on the board. Using a different coloured dry-wipe marker from each other, they mark the answer in the appropriate box. It works particularly well if they roll a dice to determine which column they must answer a question in (columns are numbered 1-6). If the column they’ve rolled has all been completed, they could either roll again or miss a go. If different coloured markers are not available, children could put their initial or a symbol next to their answer. First to correctly answer a line of 4 in a row – vertically, horizontally, diagonally – wins. Answer grids can be printed for students to self-check if required or they could use a calculator at the end to check if they are correct. Calculating Change from Five Pounds Money Games: differentiated, illustrated four-in-a-row boards, each featuring 36 prices in UK currency (sterling) for calculating change from £5, plus a 20-card loop card / dominoes set. Printable games for starters, early finishers activities, revision etc. FOUR IN A ROW A fun, strategic activity for consolidating this key money / financial / shopping skill. Ideal for maths lessons or Money Week skills practice. Originally designed for Key Stage 2 (KS2) Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 (Y3 / Y4 / Y5 / Y6) but might suit others. In Scotland, it’s for Primary 4, 5, 6 and 7. Includes: 2 PDF files 2 standard game boards (featuring different items and prices from each other) 2 lower ability boards (same as above but less challenging calculations) Answer grids for at-a-glance checking by students or teacher Teacher notes Laminate and use again and again. Children work as pairs against pairs or one against one to get 4 correct answers in a row - horizontally, vertically or diagonally. It works especially well if they roll a dice to find which column they must pick a calculation from (columns numbered 1-6). If there are no questions left in a column, skip a go or roll again. Imagining that they pay for each item with £5, pupils use a different coloured whiteboard pen to record on the board the change due for each of their transactions or add an initial or symbol if both teams are using the same colour. I recommend printing in A3 but A4 is okay too. The LA versions have a star next to the title. Print on different coloured card or paper if required. LOOP GAME / FOLLOW ME CARDS / DOMINOES A 20-card set that can start with any card. A child reads the ‘I spend’ part first as they make their ‘purchase’ with others working out if they have the relevant ‘I give you’. Use as a game for groups or as a whole class starter or plenary (in pairs if necessary). LA pupils could be given less challenging cards so they can still experience success. I have packs for calculating change from £1, £10 and £20, available with this pack in a bundle: Change Games Bundle Other popular KS2 Maths resources: Mental Maths Bundle Multiplication / Division Bundle Angles / Symmetry Activities Bundle Thank you. Worksheets 4 and 5 are basic comprehension worksheets, with 5 being a little more challenging. They feature different texts and could be used for differentiation or to provide progression for the same students if required. Worksheet 6 is a differentiated crossword puzzle where the clues involve students filling in the blanks in French hobbies phrases beginning with ‘J’aime…’. The one-star version contains a word bank for support. You can print or display the answer key for student self-checking if required. ACTIVE ORAL CARD GAME This is a game to get students out of their seats, having short conversations about recreational activities. There are 36 game cards (2 of each design). Students are given a card each and must move around the room, trying to find the player with the matching card. To find this, one player asks “Qu’est-ce que tu aimes faire pendant ton temps libre?”. The other replies with the information on their card (e.g. “J’aime cuisiner et jouer du piano.”). The second player can then ask the same question or use “Et toi?” (“And you?”) before the first player replies with the two activities on their card. If their information matches, they could say “Moi aussi!” (“Me too!”). Students who find their match could sit down to make it easier for remaining players to find their match. Versions included with French and English prompts. SERPENTS ET ECHELLES 3 different game boards (2 standard boards for practice of hobbies phrases and one for saying how often we do activities). Print and laminate the ones you require. Works well in A3 (11 x 17) for larger groups but A4 (Letter) is good too. FOUR IN A ROW GAMES 2 different game boards. Print and laminate. First to get four in a row - vertically, horizontally or diagonally - wins. Students roll dice, then choose an activity word from that number column and say it in French. If correct, use a dry-wipe marker to put a symbol or initial in that box (opponents could use a different colour dry-wipe marker), and so on. BINGO / TIC TAC TOE CARDS Use these 16 different cards for a group game of Bingo in pairs (the teacher or a student could read out French hobby words) or Tic Tac Toe / Noughts and Crosses, with students taking it in turns to say aloud a French hobby word from their card. If cards are laminated, students could write on them with a dry-wipe marker. Thank you for your interest in my resources. Adding and Subtracting Decimals

Decimal Numbers to 1 Decimal Place Numeracy treasure hunt / scavenger hunt activity: an active printable mental maths team game, with differentiation, ideal as a whole class starter or plenary at KS2 (originally designed for Year 5 and 6), especially when focusing on addition and subtraction of decimals or place value to tenths / one decimal place. It can be played multiple times in a lesson or across several lessons as groups can use different card sets each time. Teams complete a treasure hunt-type chain of decimals calculations, followed by a ‘Find the Target Number’ mental maths challenge, using a mixture of the four operations. There are 54 double-sided cards, forming sets of 6 cards for 9 teams. A key feature is the chance to involve lower ability pupils in a fun whole class activity to give them a boost of confidence without it being obvious their calculations are less challenging (3 of the sets are at an easier level). Full instructions included, along with solutions. **SAVE as part of a BUNDLE: Decimals Numbers Activities KS2 Maths Treasure Hunts Pupils collaborate on a treasure hunt type maths trail and when they’ve collected all 5 answers, they are given a target, which they must make using 3 given numbers. You may wish to remove cards from any set not being used, although this is not necessary. On your signal, teams turn over their Start card and complete the calculation. Each team sends one person to collect the correct answer card, on the other side of which will be their next question and a letter to confirm which team it belongs to. Ensure teams immediately replace any cards not marked with their letter. The process continues until the team have answered all five calculations. On the other side of the final answer card will be a target number, which teams must make, using the numbers printed in boxes in the bottom right corner of 3 of their cards. Use all 3 numbers and only once each, using any of the 4 operations. The first to make their target number wins! A possible answer for each is printed on the solution cards. German Greetings and Introductions Game

NO PREP printable board game and vocabulary card for oral practice of basic German greetings (Die Begrüßungen auf Deutsch), farewells and introducing yourself in German. This speaking review activity reinforces vocabulary such as Guten Tag (Hello), Guten Abend (Good evening), Auf Wiedersehen (Goodbye) and Bis bald (See you soon). Students will practise asking and answering questions such as Wie geht’s? (How are you?), Wie heißt du? (What’s your name?), Wie alt bist du? (How old are you?), and Wo wohnst du? (Where do you live?). My German basics resources are made for students beginning German and near beginners in KS2 or early KS3 (Years 5, 6 and 7) and equivalents but they may suit others, depending on experience. Please check the preview file to assess suitability. Three slightly different versions of this game are included, with minor changes to a small number of phrases with locations in them. This is to better suit learners in US & Canada (Page 1 of the PDF), Australia and New Zealand (Page 2), and UK and Ireland (Page 3). All phrases used in the game feature on the vocabulary card so if you are not teaching in any of these countries, you will still be able to use the game. The vocabulary card can support younger, less experienced, or less able students. Brief instructions for students are printed on the board, together with fuller instructions on Page 5 of the PDF file. In turn, students roll a dice and move the appropriate number of spaces. They have to say aloud in German the word, phrase or question they land on, otherwise they return to the space they came from. You may wish to print the board in A3 for larger groups but it works well in A4 too. SAVE by purchasing this as part of my German Greetings and Introductions BUNDLE, along with these further 4 resource packs: German Greetings and Introductions Presentation and Activities German Greetings Worksheets German Greetings Games German Greetings Role-Play Cards Although I’m in the early days of adding German content, if you teach French too you might be interested to explore some of my French resources: Huge French Basics BUNDLE
