This fun and engaging lesson on the problems facing medieval kings is designed to help set the scene for Thomas Becket, Magna Carta, the Hundred Years War and the War of the Roses. If you don’t have time to go into depth on these topics, then it helps to provide a useful overview. Tailored for Year 7 students, the lesson is carefully structured with core and foundation tasks to accommodate varying levels of ability. After the main activity, students can reinforce their learning by writing a fatherly speech or advice for a medieval prince, preparing them for the problems he should expect. If you don’t have time for this literacy exercise, then you can move straight on the plenary which gets students to match the problems that we have identified with future events.

When you purchase this lesson, you will be able to download a 28 slide PowerPoint presentation which includes aims, objectives, differentiated outcomes, information slides, historical sources, tasks, activities, thinking skills diagrams, templates, a word search and writing frames. Everything has been organised to make easier to photocopy, as well as being uploaded in a PDF format. Please see the detailed preview for more information.
