Over 30 team building and outdoor adventurous activities for that can be used within the PE curriculum and for both student and staff team building workshops. I have been creating and adding to these over the last 7 years to provide a wide range of fun and creative tasks that have a strong emphasis on problem solving and teamwork. I have used them within my PE lessons as part of an OAA unit of work, with my form groups at the start of the year, with A level students to develop teamwork, with staff as part of a full team building day and i also delivered these to fellow professionals at a PE conference. Hopefully they can give you some ideas on how to create and implement simple tasks using minimal equipment to further develop communication, teamwork, leadership and problem solving skills.

Building Resilience Assembly!

This assembly aims to assist children in becoming resilient learners who are more willing to approach tasks, keep trying when tasks become difficult, and learn from their mistakes. I love giving this assembly because I feel that the key message within it is so vital. More importantly, wherever I have given this assembly (to a wide-range of students from a wide-range of contexts) it has always gone down extremely well, with students being extremely engaged and informing me of their increased resilience in the months that follow! The slides are visually engaging and well-presented, and the subject matter is tailored to the interests and needs of young people. For example, there are references to Justin Bieber, Beyonce, Andy Murray, JK Rowling and a host of other successful people in the public eye who have needed to overcome difficulties. There is also a hyperlink to a music video which utilises a ‘Rude Goldberg Machine’ which has been painstakingly set up, through months of set-backs and sticking points, to achieve an extraordinary result. The slides are fairly self-explanatory, but I’ve included guidance notes to assist the speaker. Hope that you find this useful!

Buildings

(0)
This is an advanced (CEFR C1, IELTS 7.0) EFL Speaking class about buildings. Students begin the lesson by looking at a picture of a skyscraper and picture of a bungalow. Students should describe the differences between the two types of building. Teachers should encourage students to think about the purpose, layout, furniture, dimensions of the buildings. Students then brainstorm the different types of buildings they know. Target language (factory, warehouse, stadium, church, terminal, town house) is then introduced using pictures. Students then match the building with its function. A discussion about the buildings follows, after which students rank the best building to live in. They then drill the pronunciation of the words. Moving on, the students read a short summary of the new airport in Istanbul. Key words in the text are learned using a match-up exercise. Students read the article about the terminal building at Istanbul Airport before answering comprehension questions.
